The design of the NIU homepage is clean and colorful. The page is laid out like stacked bars, interspersed with either shots or animations of campus and student life. It keeps the user interested without distracting them. The reds and whites are not glaring, somehow managing to allow photos pop out. Without even reading the text, I can sense professionalism. The text itself is concise to each picture and link: the main text is bold, while some pictures and links have brief blurbs informing a user key details. The homepage conveys clearly where each link goes and where to go if the user has specific questions. Since this is a visual-based information hub, the homepage is not accessible to people with significant visual impairment. There is no text-to-speech option, and any type of one would function poorly with how the site's page is designed.
I agree that the NIU homepage is very professional and is very straight to the point. Interesting that you pointed out that a text to speak option would not work very well on this page.
ReplyDeleteHow *could* it work to serve?
Delete"Without even reading the text, I can sense professionalism." Shall we talk about the power of images and visual design?!! :)
